Have you ever thought about what motivates you? In the mood to create a plan and execute it to the end?

We often feel that we need to be inspired to come up with ideas and develop a project, but does this inspiration come on its own? The correct answer is: almost never!

Wanting to achieve goals and having a objective is undoubtedly the first step. Next, a little willpower is enough, or is that not the case? Some studies indicate that the more we try to strengthen our willpower, the less we are able to fulfill our goals.

Sounds a bit contradictory, doesn’t it?

In fact, you just have to create the right stimuli and habits to get your work done and reach your goals. Let’s see how this goes?

Creativity as a starting point

We often think that creativity is something that is born with us or that comes at unexpected times. And the more we think about a particular goal, the fewer ideas we have for achieving it. We all find ourselves in this impasse: we wait for “The” moment to arise, but we do nothing to find it.

First, it is important to reflect on our routine and habits. Since we have to define goals and tasks for our daily lives, why not define them as well to become creative?

The first step is to choose the objective:

  • What plans do you have?
  • What do you want to achieve?

Let’s think about it…

Thought?

So let’s go to the second step: create new habits that stimulate our creativity!

What can we do to become more creative?

1. Look for inspiration in subjects other than the topic you are working on

If we want to be productive creators, the important thing is to become active too. The easiest will be to look for our main sources of inspiration — what we know that usually works.

Another relevant point is that we must allow ourselves to travel between tasks. Focus is extremely important, but you need to know how to accept when you need to put that specific task aside.

Pause, look for other topics and seek to understand other subjects. Learn something new and get out of your comfort zone. Who knows, that’s where you’ll find the inspiration you’re looking for.

When you return to the topic you were working on, you will find that you have a new perspective and will be much more productive.

2. Be less critical: learn to value yourself

Negativism and constant doubts about ourselves and our abilities are perhaps the worst enemies of creativity. It is necessary to have trust, to know that we are capable of accomplishing something and to believe in our work.

The moment we stop doubting ourselves, we are able to expand our horizons and find other sources of inspiration and alternative ways to reach our goal.

Stop criticizing yourself and find ways to see the bright side. If you don’t get it right from the start, get it on the second try. Don’t forget that all artwork was just a draft first.

3. Stimulate productivity: everything has its moment

It is necessary for focus and creativity to coexist and we must work on them together. Focus is and should always be the keyword for productivity. Focus and creativity need to coexist and we must work on them together.

We need to train focus to be more productive. But how can we do this?

Here are some tips:

  • Define a goal and choose a task to perform;
  • Eliminate all possible distractions;
  • Set a timer (even if it’s for 20 minutes), this way you can guarantee that at that time you can only work on that task and nothing else;
  • Be able to notice the moment your mind starts to wander and refocus on what you were doing.

And creativity? There’s room for her too!

You just need to recognize the right moment. Let your mind guide you as you hop on public transport or cook dinner for the whole family. We all wander while doing other things and most of the time a new idea comes up. Who hasn’t had a good idea in the shower? Be able to think freely and create freely too.

And now? Let’s put it all into practice

Forget about mental blocks, lack of inspiration or willpower. All this is possible to combat when we train our mind. Allow yourself to explore your creativity and train your focus when necessary. There is no dead end, your mind can be treacherous at times. Put all these tips into practice and you will see your productivity increase!
